Our rehearsals are more than just practicing, they include group tuition in a mentoring style run by Paul, the orchestra conductor. We often spend some of the practice sessions, sight reading new pieces that members bring to the orchestra so we gain confidence and increase our playing repertoire list. In addition we sometimes play the scales of music pieces we are about to practice so that we keep any intonation issues to a minimum. Our music is not only a classical repertoire list but we sometimes play quite modern pieces as well. Our concerts also give everyone the experience of playing to an audience.
Practice sessions are held every Wednesday evening, 7.00 to 9.00pm in Henley Community Centre, to the left off Crown St, Henley. There are sometimes extra practice sessions in the weeks preceding concerts. In addition, smaller groups, such as string trios and string quartets, often get together and practice informally in an orchestra member’s home.
Our practice sessions are held every alternate Sunday at 10.00am to 12 noon, in Henley Community Hall, of Crown St, Henley.. We tend to keep the repertoire list the same as the 7.00-9.00pm Wednesday practice so that if you can’t come to a Wednesday session you can make it up on Sunday.
There is plenty of free off-street parking.
